Week One!

I am excited for this class. Just thought I would put that out there right away.  We discussed what the objective of the class was in regards to the title of "innovative activities".  To sum it up, I think that the class is going to provide us with ideas of creative activities that we can use in our future when working with a wide range of people who have different abilities, while also focusing on the planning and implementation processes of the activities.  I think it is important to focus on their ability, rather than disability, when planning activities because this can help to create activities that are within the individual's capability range, while also adding different aspects to the activity to help reach new goals.

We had to be creative right from the get go and plan a name game with a group to present to the class.  We didn't have much time to plan, but in the field of recreational therapy, you definitely have to be quick when it comes to thinking of small filler games or how to adapt an activity to make it work better.  It was really fun and interesting to see what each group or team came up with.  I personally liked the song name game best because I think songs work well with remembering names.  We also brainstormed ideas for a "full value contract" for our class as to what we want to get out of the class and what we expect out of our classmates and ourselves.  It was a good first class overall and I am definitely excited for the flashmob and therapeutic hula hooping. ( I got a brand new hula hoop for Christmas and we had some good laughs watching my Dad and other family members attempt to hula hoop :) )

"Life is what you make it. Always has been, always will be." - Eleanor Roosevelt

I wanted to add this quote not only because I love quotes ,but because I think it is a good outlook to have for the start of a semester. I think that because our class only meets once a week it is important to come each week with a positive attitude and be prepared to make the most out of our class each week.  I also think that every situation in life is what you make of it and if you have a positive outlook on life, you can get a lot more out of life. :)
